Some SAR dogs are trained to search through rubble for people. In this scenario, the dog is not finding a specific person, as is the case with tracking and trailing. The dog is looking for any human scent. Avalanches, collapsed buildings, airplane and train crashes are all examples of sites where these kind of dogs are employed. Most often, German Shepherds, Labradors, Belgian Sheepdogs, Malinois, and similar sized breeds are used for this kind of work: these dogs work well off leash (which Bloodhounds do not) and are suitably agile for scrambling around in the debris (which Bloodhounds are not).
