Williams Tool (800-338-6668) is selling the Hitachi 3.25 hp Variable Speed
router for $219. I had ordered a Ryobi 3 hp VS router, and after about
two months of being back-ordered, took them up on the Hitachi offer.

Why VS? My main use for a large router is door-making, which means
large diameter cutters. 20,000 rpm is just too high for 3"-4" dia. cutters
(10,000 rpm is more appropriate). What I really want is a heavy duty
shaper, but the Hitachi router, mounted in the extension table for
my table saw, is almost as good.
