I have a healthy respect for these cutters, but since I only use them in a
router table, with the cutter below the panel, they are relatively safe to
use. I do own one vertical panel raiser, for my 1/2" shaper, but there
are two reasons that I prefer the horizontal. One is availability of
different profiles is much greater for the horizontal, the second is that
holding the panel vertical is more subject to error - especially since
part of the guiding surface is getting cut away. Even with a 6" tall
fence, it is harder to get perfect results than with the horizontal
cutters. BTW, the panel raisers that I own came from Cascade Tools.
In addition to the vertical cutter, I have a 3 1/2" dia. ogee profile
cutter, and am very happy with its performance.
