I have a Freud FT2000 and like it a lot; no job is too big for it. It
is heavy, and it encourages me to anchor the work carefully before I try
to do anything. I'd like to get one of those foam router pads; I
believe that might make set-ups easier. If I had to do it over again,
I'd look more carefully at the dual-body Porter Cable router that you
can switch from plunge to standard and back. It would be nice to mount
the standard body permanently under the router table.
However, all that would cost a *lot* more. As far as I can tell, and I
studied all the brands carefully before I bought, the Freud is a very
high quality bargain. One more note--it's really a 3 HP Makita made to
Freud specs. Check reviews on the Makita, since the two are very
similar. Also, buy the edge guide for an additional $21 (I bought my
router and guide from International Tools); I use it a lot.
