I am glad to hear you are not considering SEARS, you will be glad too
in the longrun. I have observed some things that might be useful to
you:
One problem I have with by belt sander (SEARS) is that the silly thing
is lopsided. The problem is that the drive pulleys and fan belt are
mounted on one side making that side much heavier. You can observe
this by placing on a flat surface - it will all but fall over! When
using it, I notice that I have to constantly fight it to keep it flat.
The dust collection system, a must on a belt sander is a hose
attachment. This cheap plastic thing broke durint the first use. The
hose is a real pain to work with, the ridges on the vacuum hose
constantly catching on the edge of the piece being sanded.
