I purchased the 6" variable speed model, before the dust hood came out.
I would definately get the variable speed model, as I have found I use it
most often at less than full speed. This baby really goes! I also could
not decide between the 5" or 6", so I choose the 6" because "it was only
a few dollars more". I like it. I suppose it would depend on the size
of the pieces of wood you expect to sand. Neither one is going to fit
into corners, or inside curves, so you have to use something else anyway.
Incidentally, I believe you can buy the pad/orbiter separately, and swap
sizes if the need arises.
