I tried one last week at a display in a Post Tools store.Seemed to work OK
on the oak in the display. They had the Makita set up too, and it seemed very
similar. I was concerned about the small motors in these particular sanders
(both 1.7 amp) and I was not sure about wanting to buy expensive sandpaper
with the velcro-ish back. The Makita was $4 for 5 disks and the Porter-Cable
was $6 for 5 disks. The patern of holes in the sandpaper disks (used for dust
pickup via suction) is different, and there was a greater selection of grits
in the Porter-Cable, but the Makita range seemed fine to me.
I am working on a Canoe right now and will need such a tool soon, but was not
convinced to buy either. Still looking and open to suggestions.
