I have the AEG HBSE75S belt sander and have been very happy with it.
Although it requires turning a small dial to change speeds, I cannot
imagine a need to change speeds while operating it. It has the
largest motor of any 3x21 belt sander I know of (7.8A), and comes with
brackets to mount it upside down on the bench. I also have the
sanding frame, which is fantastic. Whatever sander you buy, make sure
you can get a sanding frame. Compared to the AEG frame, though, the
other frames I have seen leave a lot to be desired. Other features I
like are the use of a graphite pad under the belt and the compactness
of the machine. It's taken quite a beating in my shop, and still acts
new.
