Montelukast or Singulair is a leukotriene blocker useful in control of asthma.
Montelukast or Singulair is able to block leukotriene action in the lung resulting in less constriction of the bronchial tissue and less inflammation. Its activity translates into fewer asthma attacks and fewer asthma medications.
Montelukast or Singulair is generally well tolerated. It can be taken with or without food, and a once daily, usually in the evening, provide suitable blood levels.
Children as well as elderly people tolerate Montelukast or Singulair well, although a dosage adjustment may be required.
Montelukast or Singulair can be given in combination with other asthma medications, and it does not interact with warfarin or theophylline.
